The series made headlines around the world for its journalism on Russian spyship operations around Scandinavian waters, including near Nordstream.

Vlad was interviewed by Lisbeth Quass about the wider implications of Russia's information war.

He underlined the difference between Soviet and contemporary Russian propaganda, and explored the intersection of Russian propaganda and the crisis of trust in democracy in the West. He made the point that Russian interference is serious, but it exploits rather than creates the deeper problems our democracies face.
Interview with The Associated Press, March 2022

Vlad was interviewed about the decision by McDonald's to pull out of Russia in the aftermath of its invasion of Ukraine, contrasting this with his memories of the day when the fast food giant first opened in Moscow, 3 decades earlier.

"That McDonald's is a sign of optimism that in the end didn't materialise," said Vexler, a political philosopher and author who now lives in London. "Now that Russia is entering the period of contraction, isolation and impoverishment, you look back at these openings and think about what might have been."
